DURHAM – Bishop Guertin High School and Nashua High School North will go head-to-head in the last quarterfinal game of the Granite State Challenge on April 30.

The Bishop Guertin Cardinals are led by captain and senior Mohid Khan. The team features a lineup of seniors Declan Pyles, Teddy Bond and Aidan Coffey. Supporting the team are alternates Grant Leonardi, a sophomore as well as senior Carter Rick and sophomore Derek Chen. The Cardinals are coached by English teacher Jeannette Riendeau.

Heading into the final quarterfinal game, Khan made sure that his team learned from their previous mistakes and expanded their knowledge of fine arts.

“I’ve been reading quite a few books, to prepare and learning a lot about broader American culture–more than I would’ve known before GSC,” said Khan.

When asked about the team’s mindset, Riendeau said her team was ready for the game, but also knew that they were up against a strong opponent.

“They were a little bit excited, but just a moment ago they said they were looking at the teams that are on the board right now, and they’re all very good teams,” she said. “So, I think they’re going into it cautiously optimistic.”

The Nashua North Titans are captained by senior Ryan Mamos, along with seniors Daniel Morcos, Benjamin Kelly and Ethan Hobbs. Supporting the lineup is alternate Marie Nalen, a junior. The team is coached by Timothy Bosch.

Being at the NHPBS studios and seeing the behind-the-scenes work that goes into a show like Granite State Challenge had Mamos excited for the next game.

“It is definitely a really fun group,” he said. “I’ve known a lot of them since elementary school. It’s just fun to be able to do this with them.”

Bosch spoke about the fun his team is having this year.

“They’re here with their friends to do this and enjoy the competition no matter what,” he said.
