PELHAM – Anthony Serrano, 38, of Hudson, was taken into custody on April 25 after six hours of attempting to evade police.
According to the Pelham Police Department, an officer attempted to stop Serrano at 4:33 a.m. after allegedly observing him crossing the double yellow line and speeding.
Serrano then reportedly turned around at a gas station and fled north on Bridge Street at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued; however, it was terminated for safety reasons.
Serrano’s vehicle was later found after he hit a tree at the intersection of Bridge Street and Short Road. When officers arrived at the scene, the car was empty; however, they found that Serrano had lost a shoe and dropped his cell phone.
At that time, officers called for assistance from the State Police K-9 Unit and the Salem Police Department. Serrano was found walking barefoot along Webster Avenue at 9:35 a.m. and was placed under arrest an hour later.
He has been charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, disobeying a police officer, conduct after an accident and criminal trespassing.
Serrano was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. He was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned in Salem District Court on June 1.
Under state law, if convicted, he could face up to two years in prison, having his driver’s license suspended for up to 21 months and up to $5,950 in fines.
