NASHUA — What started as a simple invitation to clean out cabinets and give glass vases a second life turned into a powerful act of environmental stewardship and community care.
Through its recent Vase Drive, Fortin Gage Flowers, located at 86 West Pearl St., collected 2,347 gently used vases, preventing nearly two metric tons of carbon emissions by keeping glass out of the waste stream and reducing the need for new manufacturing.
In addition to its environmental impact, the initiative generated $2,347 in direct financial support for local nonprofit organizations, including The Nashua Senior Center, Meals On Wheels, Nashua Public Library and Legacy Trust. The idea was simple. One dollar for each vase would be donated to the charity featured during the drive.
“This drive was about much more than vases,” said Fortin Gage owner Amber Morgan. “In some cases it gave homebound individuals a meaningful way to declutter. It allowed people on fixed incomes to directly support organizations that have supported them. It showed how small, thoughtful actions can ripple outward in powerful ways.”
The Vase Drive created an accessible way for residents to participate in sustainability efforts while strengthening their connection to local services and small businesses.
“The Vase Drive turned clutter into care — for our neighbors, our nonprofits and our planet,” said Morgan.
Fortin Gage continues to explore creative ways to combine sustainability with social impact, proving that flowers can do far more than brighten a room — they can strengthen a city.
The Vase Drive offered a meaningful way for donors–many on fixed incomes themselves–to support a service that directly touches lives every day.
