NASHUA – More than 30 residents were displaced after a six alarm fire gutted a half dozen apartments at 108-110 Ash St. and 115 Vine St. on the morning of Dec. 2.
According to Nashua Fire Rescue, firefighters responded to the scene at 6:28 a.m. and encountered heavy flames at the rear of the Ash Street property. Crews also found fire in the rear of 115 Vine St., prompting a second alarm.
A third alarm was struck as command personnel arrived at the scene. As firefighters continued to attack the flames, they encountered “extreme fire conditions” and were ordered to evacuate and assume defensive positions.
Three additional alarms were struck and a general alarm was sent out instructing all off duty Nashua firefighters to respond and ultimately extinguish the inferno.
Mutual aid at the scene was provided by Hollis, Hudson, Manchester, Merrimack, Milford, Pelham and Tyngsborough, Mass.

Three residents and one firefighter were injured and were taken to local hospitals.
Although the smoke detectors were working, the buildings did not have sprinkler systems, according to NFR.
In response, the displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army – Nashua Corps. Those organizations are providing temporary housing, casework services, supplies and emergency support services.
“We are extremely grateful that all residents were safely evacuated and for the rapid response from our public safety partners,” said Emily Martuscello, director of the city’s Emergency Management Department. “Our community partners are working together to ensure every displaced resident has support, shelter and a clear path to recovery.”
