Nashua VFW Loyalty Day slated for May 3

NASHUA – The Nashua VFW Post 483 will be holding its annual Loyalty Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. on May 3 at the Nashua Senior Activity Center, 70 Temple St.
Awards will be presented to a police officer, firefighter, teacher, students and an ROTC student. There will also be a special presentation from Gov. Kelly Ayotte.
Loyalty Day originally began as Americanization Day in 1921 in response to the Communists’ May 1 celebration of the Russian Revolution. On May 1, 1930, 10,000 VFW members staged a rally in Union Square in New York City to promote patriotism. Through a resolution adopted in 1949, May 1 evolved into Loyalty Day.
