United Way calling for laptop donations

NASHUA – The United Way of Greater Nashua is urgently seeking laptop donations from local companies and individuals to support its Laptop Distribution Program.
This initiative provides free laptops or tablets to low-income individuals in need, empowering them to apply for jobs, work remotely, pursue education, access telehealth services and connect with friends and family.
The program’s transformative impact is evident through the stories of its recipients. Recently, a member of the recovery community shared how a laptop from the United Way ended a six-year period of unemployment. With her new device, she was able to apply for jobs and was ultimately offered a position, marking a significant step forward in her journey.
“This program is about more than just technology; it’s about providing a lifeline to those who need it most,” said Michael Apfelberg, president of the United Way of Greater Nashua. “Access to a laptop can mean the difference between opportunity and stagnation. We’re calling on local businesses and organizations to help us expand this vital program.”
While the United Way can purchase some laptops through generous grant funding from Microsoft and the city of Nashua, the national availability of refurbished laptops for purchase is currently low. Donations from the local business community are crucial to meeting the growing demand. Each donated laptop is professionally wiped of all data and refurbished before being distributed to a recipient, ensuring security and functionality.
The United Way has seen a sharp rise in requests for laptops, particularly from individuals in the recovery community. Many recipients are seeking to rebuild their lives and access to technology plays a critical role in their success.
The United Way of Greater Nashua aims to demonstrate the transformative power of technology with every story, like that of a single mother who used her laptop to complete an online certification course and secure stable employment or a senior citizen who now uses her tablet to attend virtual healthcare appointments and stay connected with her grandchildren.
Every laptop donation brings hope and opportunity to someone in need. To donate laptops or learn more about the program, please contact the United Way of Greater Nashua at info@unitedwaynashua.org.
