NASHUA – The United Way of Greater Nashua recently announced that it has been selected for a second year as a Microsoft TechSpark Fellow.

Sara Ceaser, director of Volunteer and Community Engagement at the United Way, will continue to serve as the TechSpark Fellow, leading efforts to address critical challenges in tech access and digital literacy across the Greater Nashua region.

Building on the success of the pilot year, during which the groundwork was laid for several innovative initiatives, the second year of the fellowship focuses on implementation and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance the efficiency and impact of these programs.

With the support of Microsoft’s TechSpark program, the United Way is advancing several community-centered initiatives:

Launching after Jan. 1, 2025, this program will provide one-on-one support to help individuals navigate digital tools and access essential online services. Session locations will be posted on the United Way’s website.

The United Way is compiling and sharing a comprehensive list of free digital literacy classes offered by partner organizations to help community members improve their technology skills.

Scheduled for March 2025 at Nashua Community College, this summit will bring together local leaders, technology advocates and experts to explore solutions for expanding tech access. Registration details and session information will be announced soon.

The United Way is distributing approximately 10 laptops weekly to individuals in need, ensuring they have the tools required for work, education, telehealth and staying connected. Many laptops have been distributed to individuals in the recovery community.

Since its inception last January, this coalition has been a driving force behind these initiatives, fostering collaboration to address tech access challenges in the region.

“Being a part of the Microsoft TechSpark Fellowship allows us to break down barriers to technology in Greater Nashua,” said Ceaser. “With the support of Microsoft, we are equipping individuals with the tools and skills they need to thrive in today’s digital world, ensuring no one is left behind.”

“Microsoft’s TechSpark program works closely with local community organizations to develop digital skills, support nonprofits and create jobs,” said Michael Egan, senior director of Microsoft TechSpark. “Working with organizations like United Way of Greater Nashua will help realize the potential of technology and foster greater economic opportunity in Greater Nashua.”

Last year, the TechSpark Fellows program reached 48,000 community members, engaged 548 partners and secured more than $177 million in funding support to build economic opportunities in 42 communities across the U.S. Learn more about Microsoft TechSpark at https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/.
