City announces changes to parking fees and fines effective Jan. 1

NASHUA — The city will implement new parking regulations, including updated meter rates, permit structures and fines for parking violations on Jan. 1, 2025.
The changes are part of a recent ordinance amendment.
These updates, following the comprehensive Parking Study that concluded in early 2023, are aimed at improving parking management across Nashua, ensuring greater turnover in high-demand areas and enhancing accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
Meter Rate Increases
Parking meter rates will see an adjustment across the three existing zones and the addition of a fourth zone:
Zone I: $1.50 per hour
Zone II: $1 per hour
Zone III: $0.75 per hour
Zone IV: $2 per hour for the first three hours, with a charge of $4 per hour thereafter.
New Parking Permit Structure
The city has introduced a revised parking permit structure with options for universal, full-access, day-use and off-peak (evening) parking. Monthly fees vary by tier, with prices starting at $30 and going up to $200 depending on the facility and level of access required.
Increased Fines for Parking Violations
To encourage compliance and improve parking availability, fines for parking violations will increase:
Expired Meter/Failure to Pay: $15
Overtime Parking: $25
Parking in Restricted Areas (No Parking, Loading Zones, etc.): $30
Blocking Driveways or Fire Hydrants: $50-$75
Handicapped Parking Violations: $250
In addition, a fine escalation schedule for late payments will be implemented and repeat offenders may be subject to additional penalties.
“We are committed to ensuring equitable access to parking across Nashua, particularly in high-demand areas,” said Parking Manager Jillian Stansfield “These updates are designed to improve the overall parking experience for residents, businesses and visitors.”
