City of Nashua and Plan NH announce community design charrette for Millyard

By Staff | May 12, 2025

NASHUA – The city’s Community Development Division, in partnership with Plan New Hampshire, recently announced an upcoming two-day Design Charrette focused on transforming the Millyard District, one of the city’s most historic and geographically significant areas.

The Design Charrette will take place on May 30-31 in the third floor auditorium of City Hall at 229 Main St. The May 30 sessions will be at 3 and 6 p.m. while the May 31 session will be at 3 p.m.

A design charrette is a community engagement exercise to develop planning and design strategies for a target study area. Over the course of two days, residents, local leaders and urban planning professionals will come together to create a future vision for the area. Through brainstorming, discussion and design, participants explore ways to revitalize the Millyard into a vibrant, accessible and sustainable mixed-use district.

Located at the crossroads of Downtown Nashua, Mine Falls Park and the Nashua River, the Millyard District holds incredible potential for new housing, economic development, riverfront access and public amenities. The event is part of a broader effort to address outdated infrastructure, limited connectivity and poor land use, through a vision that supports smart growth and community vitality. The insights gathered from this event will help shape future redevelopment strategies and inform both public and private investments.

Residents are welcome to attend any of the following public sessions, which will all take place in the third floor auditorium of City Hall.

This will be an opportunity for residents to collaborate and give input to Plan NH’s design professionals about what they envision in a revitalized Millyard.

This will be a recap of discussions from the brainstorming workshops, site walks, conversations with community/business leaders and presentation of final design concepts and recommendations.

Translation services for Spanish and Portuguese will be available for the 6 pm workshop on Friday and Public Presentation on Saturday.

A public survey is also available to gather input from community members prior to the event.
