Nashua Library receives $10K grant from New Hampshire Charitable Foundation
NASHUA – The Nashua Public Library recently received a $10,000 grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation to expand voter services.
The grant allows the library to build on its long history as a trusted community resource of nonpartisan election information with educational events, language translation, a web page and a Voter Information Station.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant and partner with grassroots organizations to make the Nashua Public Library a hub for voter engagement in southern New Hampshire,” said Information Services Supervisor Julie Annette Rosier. “By reducing language barriers and guiding voters through the electoral process, we aim to build confidence and inspire enthusiasm about exercising our right to vote as a community.”.
City Clerk Daniel Healey and the Board of Registrars will visit the library four times over the next two months to offer voter registration updates and election information.
The initiative will continue with the following events:
-Vote with Confidence – Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
-Voter Registration Drive and Conversation with Secretary of State David Scanlan – Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.
-Voter Registration Drive – Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
The event on Sept. 28 includes free food, childcare, and interpretation services in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Swahili. The library is also collaborating with local community groups to provide grassroots outreach and language services, focusing on Nashua’s growing Hispanic/Latinx population.
“When people understand their rights, the issues, and the process, they are empowered to make informed choices that shape the future of their community and country,” said Angela Mercado, director of the Community Engagement Training Center and one of the event’s partners.
Kile Adumene, co-director of Manchester Community Action Coalition and another event partner, said the event is part of her group’s work in “emboldening marginalized communities to make choices that are authentic to them.”
Residents can visit [nashualibrary.org/vote]nashualibrary.org/vote for nonpartisan election information and resources as well as attend one of the voter registration drives.
