Arlington Street Community Center reopening following $1.1M renovation
NASHUA – On Sept. 13, the Arlington Street Community Center, 36 Arlington St. will celebrate its grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. and an open house from 5-7 p.m.
The ASCC, owned and operated by the city, is announcing its official reopening after a comprehensive $1,125,000 renovation. Located in the Crown Hill neighborhood, the ASCC has been a vital resource for the city’s most vulnerable residents since it first opened in 2017. The center offers free, community-led programming, including a highly regarded multilingual Preschool Readiness Activity Group, while serving as a gathering place for residents. All programming is overseen by a full-time, on-site director and shaped largely by community input.
The renovation project was made possible with $1 million from the Community Center Investment Program, which is part of the New Hampshire Community Development Fund. The renovation addressed essential structural repairs, including significant work to the rear exterior wall and stone foundation–critical improvements that have preserved the building’s integrity and prevented further deterioration and expense. Additionally, the renovation enhanced accessibility, making the first floor and entrances ADA-compliant, and implemented energy-efficient upgrades, such as window replacements, HVAC enhancements and improved insulation.
“We are so fortunate to have a community resource like the Arlington Street Community Center here in Nashua,” said Mayor James Donchess. “This funding enabled us to make critical improvements to this building and we are excited to see the renovations and move forward with this beloved and important part of the neighborhood.”
The upgrades not only ensure the building is safe and accessible but also promise to significantly reduce future energy costs. The renovation work began in January and was completed in August.
The ribbon-cutting will be followed by a musical playgroup with Nashua Community Music School. The open house will include offering free activities, meet and greets with community partners, and tours of the renovated space. The theme of the open house is celebrating the history of the building and its service to the community since 1892.
The city invites the public to join the celebration and witness the revitalized space that continues to serve as a cornerstone of community engagement and support.
