LONDONDERRY – Lillianna Cawthron, 17, of Londonderry, died on the afternoon of Aug. 23 following a single-car crash on Interstate 93 south.

This is the seventh time this year that a driver under the age of 21 has been killed in a car crash, according to the state Department of Safety.

According to State Police, troopers responded to mile marker 14 on I-93 south at 2:47 p.m. After speaking with witnesses, police determined that Cawthron, who was driving a 2008 Mercury Milan, had veered off the right side of the highway and into a heavily wooded area, striking several trees.

Londonderry firefighters were able to get Cawthron out of the mangled vehicle. She was then rushed to Elliott Hospital in Manchester where she was later pronounced dead.

Traffic was reduced to two lanes for approximately four hours.

Additional information was not available as the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Trooper Daniel Morton at 603-223-4381 or at Daniel.A.Morton@DOS.NH.GOV.
