CAMPTON – Barry English, 38, of Nashua, was taken into custody on June 24 in connection with three armed robberies.

According to police, on June 23, officers received a report of a 2013 BMW 550 which was stolen from the Shaw’s parking lot at 300 Main St. Later in the day, they were notified of an armed robbery at Cumberland Farms at 106 Amherst St. in which the store clerk was allegedly threatened with a knife.

After interviewing witnesses and victims, police were able to connect English with the incidents.

After leaving Cumberland Farms, English was observed driving north on the southbound side of the F.E. Everett Turnpike between exits 6 and 7 in Nashua. A short time later, police learned that English had committed another armed robbery in Lowell, Mass. The location of that incident has not been released.

The following morning, English reportedly struck again, robbing Passumpsic Savings Bank in Newport, Vt. At approximately 4 p.m., State Police located English on Interstate 93 in Lincoln. Following a 20-mile pursuit through the North Country, troopers stopped him in Campton and placed him under arrest.

English was subsequently charged with theft by unauthorized taking, robbery with a deadly weapon, convicted felons, reckless conduct, reckless operation and driving after revocation/suspension.

English refused bail and appeared in the Ninth Circuit Nashua District Division Court on June 25.

If convicted, English could face up to 29 years to life in prison, up to 10 years probation and up to $10,000 in fines.

In addition, English has a rap sheet going back 21 years.

Court records indicate that in 2003, he was charged with robbery-conspiracy and robbery-criminal liability in Nashua. He pled guilty in July 2004. The following year, English admitted to being partially responsible for robberies in Nashua and Manchester.

Five years later in Keene, English was charged with acts prohibited and pleaded guilty.

In 2012 in Nashua, he was charged with theft and burglary and pleaded guilty to the burglary charge in January 2013. As a result, English spent two years in prison and was fined $2,925.

In 2018, English was charged with three counts of acts prohibited in Salem. He pleaded guilty to one of the counts and was sentenced to two years in prison and $434 in fines.
