United Way seeks digital navigators to bridge digital divide

By Staff | Mar 5, 2024

NASHUA – In an effort to enhance digital equity and empower individuals with digital literacy skills, the United Way of Greater Nashua is launching a pioneering initiative called Digital Navigators under its Tech Connect United program.

Tech Connect United, a flagship program of the United Way of Greater Nashua, aims to address the digital divide by providing access to technology and fostering digital inclusion within the community. The Digital Navigators initiative seeks to recruit dedicated volunteers who are passionate about technology and helping others to serve as guides in navigating the digital landscape.

Digital Navigators play a crucial role in providing digital literacy training and support to individuals, helping them understand and utilize technology such as smartphones, computers and the Internet. From addressing continuous tech support needs like dealing with broken devices, spyware, lost passwords to assisting with connectivity issues and aiding in accessing affordable internet services, Digital Navigators serve as pillars of support for those striving to bridge the digital divide.

“The Digital Navigators program is a pivotal step towards ensuring that everyone in our community has equal access to the digital resources they need,” said Sara Ceaser, director of Volunteer and Community Engagement at the United Way of Greater Nashua. “By empowering individuals with digital literacy skills and providing them with the necessary support, we can unlock countless opportunities and pave the way for a more inclusive and connected community.”

Volunteers for this project will be assigned to a location within Greater Nashua, based on their preference, to provide one-on-one assistance at a set time. Digital Navigators may be stationed at various community hubs, including public libraries in Nashua and the surrounding towns, nonprofits such as senior centers, and other agencies that serve individuals who may require assistance with digital literacy and technology access.

“We are calling upon individuals who are passionate about technology and community service to join us as Digital Navigators,” said Ceaser. “Through their dedication and commitment, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who are striving to adapt to the digital age.”
