Harbor Care awarded $5K grant to support homeless women and children

By Staff | Jan 16, 2024

NASHUA – Harbor Care recently received a generous $5,000 grant from the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund to support the pregnant and parenting women and children residing in Nashua’s Cynthia Day Family Center, one of just two clinically intensive behavioral health treatment centers in NH that is designed to meet the specific needs of families in recovery.

As New Hampshire families’ struggles with substance abuse continues, Harbor Care is implementing a robust “Family Centered Treatment” model of care within its Cynthia Day Family Center through enhanced community partnerships and renovations that will create an integrated, on-site healthcare clinic embedded in its residential treatment facility; this expanded model of care will serve the whole family. “Harbor Care’s holistic and integrated approach to care addresses the multi-dimensional needs of our most vulnerable New Hampshire families,” said Henry Och, president and CEO of Harbor Care. “Thanks to the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund, we are able to provide for basic needs – food, clothing, shelter, transportation and more – while addressing the intensive behavioral health needs of both mothers and their children. The Cynthia Day Family Center combines trauma-informed behavioral health care and recovery supports with on-site family therapy, primary care, dental care, and enhanced children’s services, to create an environment where families can heal and gain recovery together. This grant, and the continued support from the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund over the years, is part of what enables us to move towards our vision where everyone gets to live safe, stable and healthy lives, filled with purpose, respect and dignity.”

“The Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund works to assist nonprofit organizations in New Hampshire and has donated more than $7 million since its establishment in 1985,” said Anu Mullikin, chair of the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund. “We are pleased to contribute to the critically important impact Harbor Care has on the lives of women and children in the Nashua area.”
