Nashua Police promotes four officers

NASHUA – On Jan. 8, the Nashua Police Department announced the promotions of four officers.

Brian Kenney, promoted to deputy chief, has 21 years of service with the Nashua Police. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from St. Anselm College and with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Rivier University.

Kenney has had many assignments including Patrol, the Problem Oriented Policing Unit, the Criminal Investigation Division, the Narcotics Intelligence Division, the Special Investigation Division, the Legal Bureau and the Professional Standards Bureau. Many of these assignments were as a supervisor.

Kenney was a member and commander of the Motorcycle Unit, a member of the Crisis Intervention Unit. He was also a member and team leader on the SWAT Team. He was a Dive Team Commander and Polygraph Unit Commander.

Kenney also received the following four awards: Letter of Recognition from the Chief’s Office, and three Commendation Bars for Distinguished Unit Action.

Michael Welch, promoted to captain, has more than 20 years of service with the Nashua Police. He has worked as a patrol officer, Criminal Investigations Division detective and lieutenant, Special Investigations detective, Narcotics Intelligence Division detective and Services Bureau lieutenant. With his new promotion, Welch will be assigned as the Uniformed Field Operations Bureau First Shift commander.

He has also received the following four awards: Letter of Recognition and three Commendation Bars for Distinguished Unit Action.

Welch was a SWAT Team member and assistant commander of the Mobile Field Force Unit.

Andrew Lane, promoted to lieutenant, has more than 15 years of service with the Nashua Police. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. for 10 years as a reserve and reached the rank of sergeant. He served one tour of duty in Iraq and was stationed in Fallujah for much of that time.

Lane has had many assignments during his years with the Police Department. He served as a patrol officer and as a sergeant in the Patrol Division. He was assigned as a Firearms Training officer and spent the majority of his career in the Criminal Investigation Division as a detective and as a sergeant.

Lane is being assigned to the lieutenant position in the Criminal Investigation Division.

He has received the following three awards: Commendation Bar for Distinguished Unit Action, Commendation Bar for Lifesaving and Commendation Bar for Meritorious Service.

Stephen Berry, promoted to sergeant, joined the Nashua Police in 2010 with four prior years of law enforcement experience.

Berry has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Fitchburg State College. He has worked in the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Special Investigations Division and as a recruiter for the Professional Standards Bureau.

He has received the following six awards: four Letters of Recognition from the Chief’s Office, a Commendation Bar for Lifesaving and a Commendation Bar from the Police Commissioners.

Berry is also a member of the Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Crime Scene Unit.
