Nashua residents can now use Genasys Protect for emergency alerting
NASHUA – The city has transitioned to the Genasys Protect system as part of the state-wide
Emergency Alerting System. This new system will replace CodeRed and serve as the primary
communication tool for emergency alerts and other important public safety messaging, including parking bans during snow storms, evacuation notices, and other critical information. Genasys Protect went live on Jan. 1 and all residents are encouraged to sign up for alerts to ensure they receive timely emergency notifications.
“The city of Nashua is one of the few jurisdictions in the state of New Hampshire with our own Wireless Emergency Alerting Authority and we take this privilege very seriously,” said Emily Martuscello, the city’s Emergency Management director. “With Genasys, we are confident about our ability to quickly and seamlessly launch an emergency alert to our residents and save lives.”
With the Genasys Protect mobile app and protect.genasys.com, residents can look up their address using the search bar to find public safety information for their area. As part of the Genasys Protect launch, the city, including visitors, now has access to location-based information and situational awareness about developments in their own, surrounding, or user-selected geographic zones through the Genasys Protect mobile app and protect.genasys.com.
“In emergency situations, it is critical to be able to alert residents and visitors of potential
dangers in the area,” said Police Chief Kevin Rourke. “With Genasys, I am confident in our ability to do so.”
The Genasys Protect app for Apple and Android can be downloaded on residents’ devices. It contains all the same functions as the website. In addition, all residents are encouraged to sign up for alerts through the City of Nashua alert system at https://nashuanhalerts.genasys.com/portal/en. During registration, residents can choose the types of alerts and how to receive them, including landline, cell phone, text/SMS message, email and through the Genasys Protect mobile app. By allowing customization, residents can prioritize the order in which they receive alerts, ensuring that the most critical information is delivered promptly. Genasys also provides a Spanish language option.
For enhanced targeting and precise messaging, residents are urged to provide their home addresses when registering. Genasys Protect allows users to add multiple addresses, such as home and work addresses, to receive location-specific messages. Additionally, residents can include multiple phone numbers in their accounts, making it easier to keep the entire family informed during emergencies.
“Genasys has great potential to communicate public safety information, such as road closures,
evacuations and shelter status, in both emergency and special event situations,” said Fire Chief Steven Buxton. “With Genasys, we are hoping to increase overall public safety awareness in the city and make sure our residents know all about what is going on.”
The information entered into Genasys Protect is strictly intended for emergency and official city communication purposes. Neither Genasys nor the city will share or sell any personal information provided. Residents can trust that their data is handled with the utmost care and privacy.
