AARP awards $15k grant to Front Door Agency

By Staff | Jul 4, 2026

CONCORD — AARP New Hampshire recently announced that The Front Door Agency received a $15,000 Community Challenge grant.

Marking the program’s 10th anniversary, the grant is part of an $8.3 million commitment by the AARP, doubling last year’s total to fund 750 quick-action projects nationwide aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages, especially older adults.

The grant will support a project to install hallway handrails and upgrade a housing unit at a supportive housing site for older women. These changes will reduce the risk of falls and improve safety and accessibility throughout the building.

“Communities across New Hampshire want solutions that boost mobility, connection, and quality of life,” said Christina FitzPatrick, state director of AARP New Hampshire. “Thanks to Community Challenge grants, we’re empowering residents to bring these ideas to life.”

This grant will enhance a supportive housing site for single women experiencing homelessness, promoting dignity, independence and long-term stability.

“Support from AARP’s Community Challenge Grant will help the Front Door Agency bring important safety and accessibility improvements to life at Mary’s House, our permanent supportive housing program for single women experiencing homelessness,” said Front Door CEO Maryse Wirbal. “With many residents ages 50 and older, these upgrades will help create a safer, more accessible living environment that supports independence, dignity and long-term housing stability.”
