United Way announces December Coffee and Causes discussion on digital access

By Staff | Nov 10, 2023

NASHUA – The United Way of Greater Nashua will be hosting its next Coffee and Causes event on Dec. 1 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss how digital equity affects Greater Nashua. This talk is directed toward seniors, but all are welcome. Experts from local agencies will talk about the lack of access to affordable internet, devices, and training some Greater Nashua residents experience.

The event will be held at the Hunt Community at 10 Allds St.

The panel discussion will focus on how residents access the Internet, the barriers people face and how to solve these problems. The Internet has become a primary form of communication and many people struggle with access to devices, high service costs or need training on how to use their devices.

The discussion will be led by Scott Slattery, community and economic development field specialist at the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension. He will be joined by Robert McLaughlin of the National Collaborative on Digital Equity. Panelists working in the areas of adult education, senior services, homelessness outreach and education will also be involved in conversation.

Digital divide can often be seen in access to devices, the ability to repair or replace devices, access to broadband, knowledge about and the ability to apply for discounted services and understanding how to use devices and software.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to register at https://tinyurl.com/Dec-Coffee or by contacting the United Way at 603-882-4011.
