City commemorates 200th anniversary of Nashua Manufacturing Co.

By Staff | Sep 7, 2023

NASHUA – Beginning at noon on Sept. 16, the public is invited to gather at Renaissance Park on Water Street to celebrate and learn about the Nashua Manufacturing Co., whose Mill No. 1 was founded 200 years ago.

Nashua Manufacturing Co. is regarded as the driving force and key builder of the City of Nashua. The textile company built many mill buildings – Mill No. 1 is now the Clocktower Place apartments – as well as workforce housing and many of the developing city’s roads.

Noted Nashua historian and popular walking tour guide Alan Manoian will be on hand to give attendees a tour around the city’s historic Millyard District and its buildings. Manoian knows many fascinating and intriguing facts about the Nashua Manufacturing Co. as well as the life of mill workers. This would be a terrific educational opportunity for Nashuans young and old to learn about our little-taught history. The tour is free, and expected to be a little over an hour. Please dress accordingly.

Additionally, the Nashua Historical Society invites everyone to visit their two museums on event day – the Florence H. Speare Memorial Museum and the Abbot-Spalding House Museum. The historical society has a plethora of artifacts and information covering centuries of Nashua history. Both buildings are located on Abbott Street.

The event is free to attend and all ages are welcome. Extreme weather will cancel the event. There is no scheduled rain date.
