Nashua student athletes no longer required to wear masks during indoor competition

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Aug 30, 2021

NASHUA — The Nashua Board of Education, at the urging of Nashua Athletic Director Lisa Gingras on Monday night, amended the indoor school mask rule to allow for student athletes who are actively engaged in competition to not have to wear masks during that time period.

The Board voted unanimously. This means that athletes this fall competing in girls volleyball matches in either the North or South gyms will not have to wear masks. However, according to Gingras’ recommendation, coaches, spectators, officials, staff and players on the bench will still need to wear them.

The ruling applies to practices as well, and also the locker rooms at Stellos Stadium, where student athletes gather with coaches at halftime of games, possibly eating, drinking, etc.
