MANCHESTER – Superior Court Chief Justice Tina Nadeau on Thursday approved Dale Holloway Jr.’s request for a new lawyer, as his cases of attempted-murder and first-degree assault move forward in both Hillsborough South and North Superior courts.

While Nadeau did not name a specific lawyer in her order, she indicated the new lawyer will be appointed from the staff of the New Hampshire Public Defender office in Manchester.

Nadeau’s Thursday order comes as colleagues of Michael Davidow, a longtime staff attorney at the New Hampshire Public Defender’s Nashua office, continue trying to come to terms with the severe beating inflicted on Davidow. This allegedly occurred at the hands of Holloway during their Monday morning meeting at Valley Street jail in Manchester.

Holloway has denied the allegations that he attacked Davidow, telling Superior Court North Judge Amy Messer during at a Tuesday bail hearing that when he noticed Davidow “had a nosebleed,” he tried to get the attention of corrections officers to come to Davidow’s aid.

Holloway also said during the hearing, which was conducted via video conference from the jail, that he “feared for my life” when Davidow told him he’d be withdrawing as Holloway’s counsel due to a conflict of interest.

Holloway did not elaborate on why he reacted as he allegedly did upon learning Davidow was withdrawing as his lawyer.

Davidow, 52, is said to be gradually recovering from the multiple, serious injuries he sustained.

Nadeau advised Holloway in her order that he must promptly contact the Manchester Public Defender’s office as part of the appointment process.

Still pending is Holloway’s evidentiary bail hearing on the five charges he faces from the alleged Oct. 12 shooting during a wedding at a Pelham church.

The hearing, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was canceled shortly after Superior Court-South officials learned of the jailhouse incident.

As it stands now, Holloway’s next court appearance is for a dispositional conference scheduled for Dec. 9 at Superior Court-North.
