Children injured in SUV crash
Pelham man charged
Emergency officials responded to Mammoth Road in the area of Old County Road at 7:53 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they found a sport utility vehicle wrecked on the side of the road.
Officers determined that DiRocco, 26, of Pelham, operated the vehicle. The SUV traveled northbound when DiRocco lost control, causing it to cross into the other lane – and ultimately strike a telephone pole. The pole snapped and broke upon impact.
DiRocco had a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy in the vehicle with him at the time of the wreck. Airbags deployed throughout the entire vehicle. The children were in car seats. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
DiRocco was arrested on the scene. He faces charges of DUI second, aggravated DUI second, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless operation, yellow line violation, criminal mischief and open container. His court date is set for 8 a.m. Monday.
