NASHUA – The 26-year-old Nashua man police have charged with shooting another man in downtown Nashua on Wednesday is scheduled for arraignment Monday in Superior Court on three felony charges.

Jalen Juwan Miller, whose address – 28 Railroad Square, Apt. 17 – is roughly 150 yards from the scene of the alleged shooting, faces one count of first-degree assault, a Class A felony, and two counts of reckless conduct, Class B felonies, police said.

They said Manchester police arrested Miller in that city on Friday, after Nashua authorities notified area departments they had issued a warrant for Miller’s arrest as part of their investigation.

Miller was jailed pending Monday’s arraignment.

Although details on the circumstances surrounding the incident have yet to be released, police said officers were called around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Main and Water streets for reports of shots being fired.

They initially determined that a 30-year-old man had been shot in the foot during an altercation with another man, who police later identified as Miller.

They said the alleged victim, whose name police didn’t release, and Miller know each other. The man sustained a relatively minor injury, which AMR personnel treated at the scene.

The man declined transport to a hospital, police said. After his wound was treated, he sat on a curb across the street in front of Peddlers Daughter for a time, occasionally speaking with police.

Capt. Scott Hammond said the alleged shooting occurred in, or adjacent to, Bicentennial Park, a triangle-shaped green space on the west side of Main Street between Darrell’s Music Hall and the Main Street Bridge.

Police cordoned off that area with crime-scene tape as they and detectives investigated.

Roughly an hour later, the injured man and a woman, who were not under arrest or in custody, got into a police cruiser that transported them to a residence on Terrace Street, a short street just north of Franklin Street.

The man and woman went into the house, and a short time later the woman came out with children, apparently taking them to a neighbor’s house.

According to Nashua police arrest log archives, Jalen Juwan Miller, 25 at the time with an address of 95 Kinsley St., Apt. A, was arrested in July 2019 on charges that apparently stemmed from riding a bicycle on a sidewalk.

He was charged with two counts of violating the city ordinance for allegedly committing prohibited acts on a bicycle and for riding a bicycle on a sidewalk, according to the log item.

He was also charged with one count each of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest or detention.

The status of that case wasn’t immediately known.
