Twosome discovered in townhouse ruled as murder-suicide

NASHUA – The two people whose bodies were discovered Sunday morning in a Nashua townhouse died of gunshot wounds in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide.

A statement released Monday afternoon by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office said it appears John Kerrigan, 77, of 219 Millwright Drive, shot and killed Marci Tenovsky, 56, then turned the gun on himself.

Autopsies conducted Monday by Dr. Michele Stauffenberg, of the state Medical Examiner’s office, determined that Tenovsky died after being shot twice in the head, while Kerrigan died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

“The investigation into the circumstances surrounding these two deaths remains active and ongoing,” according to the statement.

Authorities didn’t specify how Kerrigan and Tenovsky knew each other, such as whether they were in a relationship or were otherwise acquainted.

Kerrigan has owned the two-bedroom townhouse since 2016, and indications are he has lived there since.

Whether Tenovsky also lived there is uncertain.

Nashua police responded to the townhouse Sunday morning when someone asked them to conduct a welfare check – also called a well-being check – at the residence, authorities said.

With assistance from Nashua firefighters, police gained entry to the townhouse, where they discovered the bodies moments later.

Patrol officers an area around the front of the townhouse as detectives were summoned to the scene to begin their investigation.

The department’s crime scene van soon arrived and set up in the parking lot near the building. Officers and detectives came and went from the van as others worked inside, including photographing many areas inside and out.

One of the items police photographed was a compact car with Massachusetts plates, which was parked in the driveway of the townhouse.
