Shams targets affordability in run for Hillsborough 11
NASHUA - After his apartment building was purchased by real estate mogul Blackstone, Inc., Democrat Arya Shams watched as his rent, electric bills and property taxes skyrocketed while large corporations continued to receive tax breaks from the state. “I decided that if I wanted someone in Concord who understood that, I'd have to be that person,” said Shams, who is running for state representative in Hillsborough District 11. He said that in addition to the affordability crisis, other needs include technology control and neighborhood protection. “I want to get private equity out of housing and protect renters and first-time buyers,” said Shams. “Data centers are driving up electric bills, so I want local control and ratepayer protections.
