He’s baaaaaaaack.
Yes, it’s August and that means it’s time for Mickey Gasper to be in a Red Sox uniform at Fenway Park, just like he was two years ago.
Gasper, who was with Boston earlier this season before being sent down to Worcester, was recalled on Sunday and will be with the Sox when they begin a homestand tonight vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It was two years ago when Gasper, the former Merrimack High and Nashua Silver Knight standout who was inducted into the Sports Legends of Holman Stadium Hall of Fame, became a fan favorite as Sox fans were waiting or him to get his first Major League hit.
He had plenty of them in his first stint at Fenway this season, hitting. .243 (26 for 107) with five doubles, a triple and seven RBIs. He made 13 starts as the DH, 12 at catcher and two at first base. Boston placed outfielder-DH Masataka Yoshida on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain he suffered Saturday night, opening the door for Gasper.
He made the most of his time at Worcester in 54 games this summer, hitting .337 (66 for 196) with 18 doubles, nine homers, 42 RBIs, 42 walks, 41 runs scored, a .450 on-base percentage and a 1.016 OPS
