FCBL FINALS: Vermont forces deciding game with 1-0 win
There is one more game left to be played in the 2026 Futures Collegiate Baseball League season that began nearly three months ago on May 27, and it’s for all the marbles.
Today at 1:15 p.m. No.2 New Britain will take on No. 1 Vermont at Burlington’s Centennial Field in the deciding Game 3 of the FCBL Finals.
That’s because the Lake Monsters stayed alive with a 1-0 win in Game 2 before 3,167 at New Britain Stadium Saturday night, evening the series at a game apiece.
The hero for Vermont was Babson College pitcher Chase Burrows, who tossed eight innings of shutout baseball, allowing just four hits. He walked one ans struck out one. Ethan Freed pitched a one-two-three ninth for the save.
Vermont got the game’s only run in the seventh on Bryan Richman’s RBI single, scoring Travis Stroh. The Lake Monsters had seven hits on the night.Dylan Swarts had two of NB’s four hits.
Taking the loss on the mound was reliever Max Jarvie, who gave up the run and allowed three hits over three innings with no walks and a strikeout.
New Britain will be seeking its first championship. Vermont won it all in 2021 but lost to Nashua in 2022 and Norwich in 2023.
