The Hollis-based Battlehawks 15U Flag Football team fell 19-18 in overtime to Flag Star of Washington, D.C. in the AAU Junior Olympic national finals Sunday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jacob Grifin scored on a rushing touchdown, while Connor Serino also scored. The game-tying TD was scored by Mason Townsend, but the team fell a point short in OT.

It was quite a season for the locals.

“In just one year, 10 incredible athletes who had never played together before transformed into a team that was a single point away from being crowned as the top team in the nation,” Battlehawks coach Dave Sydow said. “It’s a testament to their skill, teamwork, and belief in each other.

“They represented New Hampshire and New England proudly. I’m so proud of each and every athlete on the team, and looking forward to next year.”

The team, while based out of Hollis, also had players from Brookline, Merrimack, Nashua and Hudson.
