NASHUA – There was no trip to Keene on Tuesday night for the Nashua Silver Knights, but that may not have been a bad thing.

The team has had pitching woes and a shortage as some old arms have left and new ones arrive. With the team’s second exhibition game vs. the Keene Swamp Bats of the NECBL cancelled last night due to rain, now the Knights can focus on the rest of the season and the chase to try to end a three-year postseason drought.

Nashua (22-28) was two games behind Norwich (23-26) for the fourth and final playoff spot and gained a game in the loss column after the Sea Unicorns fell to the Lowell Spinners last night.

Nashua is at Lowell tonight at 7 for the sixth and final time — weather permitting — and can barely afford any loss to teams like Lowell, Westfield and Norwich the rest of the way. They are set to host the Sea Unicorns on Thursday night at Historic Holman Stadium, the first of three remaining games with Norwich – all at home: Thursday, this Monday, and Nashua’s final home game on Friday, Aug. 7. The thinking is the Silver Knights need to win all three.They do that, they own a possible tiebreaker, season series.

Besides those, they have three games with Westfield, one each with New Britain and Lowell, and two with Vermont.

It’s a 10-game odyssey that the Knights need to likely win at least seven to reach the postseason.
