NASHUA – The Nashua Silver Knights won’t have to see the dreaded Vermont Lake Monsters for another nine days or so.

Not that there’s any fear, but the Lake Monsters are far away from the rest of the league to grab the top seed come a month from now.

The Silver Knights would rather focus on the teams around them in the standings who they are battling for the fourth and final playoff spot.And heck, maybemove up from that.

That all starts with tonight’s Friday Fireworks Night game at Historic Holman Stadium vs. second place New Britain (19-15), the first of three games vs. the Bees in the next week. Nashua is at Lowell (15-24) on Saturday at 5 p.m. then host New Britain again on Sunday at 3 p.m. But the game to watch would be next Tuesday’s game at Norich; the Sea Unicorns (16-20) swept a doubleheader Thursday night with Worcester and gained two games on Nashua (17-18) in 24 hours. That’s how quickly things can change.

Before the July 19 twinbill at Vermont to bring everyone to the All-Star break, Nashua also has games with Worcester (two, the Bravehearts are in third at 19-18) and two with Westfield (13-20).

“Beat the teams you have to beat,” Silver Knights manager Nick Guarinosaid. “Those three or four teams in that pile with us. We would’ve liked to have won (Wednesday), but what are you going to do, baseball happens.”

And it happens tonight with Nashua sending righty Will Perkowski (2-0, 3.90).

Besides the FCBL games next week, Nashua has an exhibition game vs. the Keene Swamp Bats on Monday at HHS…
