SUMMER STAPLES: Here are your July sports dates to eye

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Jul 3, 2026

Yes, we are now in full-fledged summer.. Let’s hope it’s not a bummer.

With these sports dates to keep an eye on, it certainly shouldn’t be:

FRIDAY, JULY 3

The Silver Knights return to LeLacheur Park on the Fourth Eve for the fourth time. They hope it’s a better visit than when they were there a few days ago and got beat by the Spinners for the first time.

SATURDAY, JULY 4

A big day locally. We start at 10:30 a.m.with what’s become an annual treat, the Silver Knights Fun on the Fourth Game. It will only be seven innings so the field can be prepped for that night’s city fireworks show, but it’s always been a good one. Three-time defending FCBL champ Norwich is the opponent.

Then, before it gets dark, the Nashua Lions Club will induct three into the Holman Sports Legends Hall of Fame. Yes, yours truly is receiving the induction the honor, along with former Silver Knight and current Red Sox regular Mickey Gasper and former Nashua Park-Rec Superintendent Nick Caggiano. Gasper will be honored at a later date as the Red Sox are in Anaheim that night.

MONDAY JULY 6 THROUGH SATURDAY, JULY 11

You all know what this is: this is the week sports belongs to the game of golf in New Hampshire, the men’s State Amateur Championship. This year it’s at the par 70, 6,210-yard Cocheco Country Club course in Dover, said to be a “shot maker’s course.”

It’s been a few years since we’ve had a local in the finals; the every year local favorite James Pleat must certainly be hungry to get back there. You know the Seacoast Army will be out in full force.

THURSDAY, JULY 9

The World Cup quartefinals, as a game will be at Boston Don’t-Call-It-Gillette Stadium. Who will be there? Well, on the field, we don’t know, but in the stands it will be 65,000 screaming fans and tons more outside watching on their phones, etc. It’s the last World Cup game at Foxborough.

MONDAY, JULY 13

It’s a week for league vs. league baseball, and it starts with the Keene Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) coming to Holman Stadium to take on the Futures Collegiate League’s Nashua Silver Knights. Game time is 6:03 p.m. The two will tangle again later this month in Keene.

TUESDAY, JULY 14

Welcome to the Major League All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. It’s still the best of the three sport All-Star Games, and old timers like yours truly still lament the fact that it was a great showcase of league vs. league back in the day, before interleague play. Bleh.

THURS-SUNDAY JULY 16-19

It’s The Open, otherwise known as the British Open Golf Championship, at Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England. It’s the last of golf’s majors for the season; hard to believe three of the four have already been played. Move the PGA back to August, please.

FRIDAY, JULY 17

The Red Sox, if anyone still cares, will be returning to action after the All-Star Break vs. Tampa that night at Fenway Park.

SATURDAY, JULY 18

If you’re still in a soccer mood, which you still should be, head up to Hanover High School to catch the 51st annual New Hampshire-Vermont Lions Twin State Soccer Cup matches, boys and girls. There are a plethora of locals playing, as is always the case. It’s a good lead-in for what’s next:

SUNDAY, JULY 19

The World Cup grand finale, the WC Championship Game at Met Life Stadium in East Rutheford, N.J.at 3 p.m. Who will be there? England? Spain? France? Does the U.S.have a shot?

TUESDAY, JULY 21

Locally, the biggest day/night of the summer – the Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game at Historic Holman Stadium. Former Red Sox standout Jonny Gomes will be there, and so will beloved former Nashua Pride manager Butch Hobson. A Home Run Derby, then the game. It’s a huge, huge event, first time the game was here since 2018. Pray for good weather.

FRIDAY, JULY 24-TUESDAY, JULY 28

Oh you definitely know what this is if you’ve been around – it’s the annual New Hampshire American Senior Legion Baseball Tournament at Historic Holman Stadium. A double-elimination event, with the finals on that Tuesday. Right now, we’re putting our chips on Nashua’s James E. Coffey Post. The Coffey Kids have some great pitching to get through the gauntlet.

SATURDAY, JULY 25

Summer’s over. Why? It’s the first day of New England Patriots training camp, with the first practice set for that morning, open to the public, on the fields behind Gillette Stadium. It will be absolutely packed if the weather is good.

SUNDAY, JULY 26

It’s Day Two of the annual two-day Milford Rotary Swim Meet at the Keyes Memorial Park Pool. It’s got just about every swimmer in the state competing, a huge event locally that is well-run.

TUESDAY, JULY 28

Besides the Legion finals at Holman, the Silver Knights will be at Keene for the second half of their home-and-home exhibition series. Game time at Alumni Stadium is 6:30 p.m.

THURSDAY, JULY 30

It’s the final Silver Knights home game of July, capping off what promises to be a busy and eventful month. The Knights host Norwich at Holman Stadium and let’s hope they will be in contention at that late date – nine days left in the regular season – for a playoff spot.

With that, we say good-bye to the only month of the year that does not have an NHIAA event.
