NASHUA – Nick Guarino has been waiting a while for a run like this.

“Two years now,” he said with a chuckle.

The Nashua Silver Knights manager has to feel better than he did this time a week ago,as the Silver Knights went from a three-game losing streak to a five game winning streak. It was highlighted by two mercy rule wins over Norwich and New Britain, but the best had to be Tuesday night’s 8-7 walk-off win in 10 innings over Worcester before albeit a sparse weeknight Historic Holman Stadium crowd.

Now tonight they face the ultimate test: Vermont on the road. University of Vermont’s Centennial Field may be the site o Nashua’s last FCBL championship in 2022, but ever since it’s been a tough place to win.

Nashua will send righty Malcom Klingler (1-2 5.00) to the mound, and he was fantastic in his last start, a 1-0 loss to the Lowell Spinners at HHS. If he pitches like that tonight, the Silver Knights could be in good shape.

That’s because right now they’re back to getting timely hits.

“We’re winning games with everybody, which is great,” Guarino said, talking about the team’s depth. “The whole lineup’s producing.”

What has changed with this team?

“I think it’s just the confidence we have going into these games,” said Tuesday night’s Knight of Night, Jordan Welch, whose bases-loaded hit down the left field line drove in the tying and winning runs. “We’ve been struggling during this little win streak but now we’re so confident we can just beat anybody right now.

“We all know we can do it. We all knowwe’re really talented. Just got to execute, really.”

WELCH ENJOYING NASHUA

Welch is having fun with the Silver Knights, trying to take advantage of his opportunities when he can. He’s from Farmingdale, N.Y. – that’s on Long Island – and will be a junior this upcoming year at Stonybrook.

“It’s awesome,” he said. “It’s just great. I think my favorite part about this is everyone’s so welcoming. I was really nervous about meeting a new team, new coaches, new atmosphere, really. But everyone’s been so welcoming, I’m really grateful. Just having a comfortable atmosphere makes everything so much easier for me.”

PITCHING PLANS

Nashua is still piecing together it’s rotation with changes but it’s top three arms go Friday through Monday (Sunday is off). It will be Will Perkowski (20, 3.18) at Lowell 7 p.m. on Friday, then righty Nigel Cross (3-0, 2.42) will get the 10:30 a.m.not Saturday on July 4 at HHS. After Sunday off, Josh Florence (3-0, 1.89) goes on Monday evening vs. Lowell.

HOME SWEET HOME

Nashua’s month of July is really split in two, as the Knights spend most of the first half of the month at home and the second half on the road. And Lowell, while not a home game, is almost just down the street.

After tonight’s trip to Vermont, Nashua has just three long bus rides before the All-Star break: at Norwich on July 14, New Britain July 16 and a doubleheader at Vermont right before the break on July 19. In a 16 date stretch (17 games), they have 10 at home,and two (Friday and July 11) are at Lowell. Just four long bus rides. Of course the second half of the month (post All-Star Game July 21) features eight of nine games on the road.

JULY 4 GAME

A reminder, the Silver Knights’ July 4 game vs. Norwich at Historic Holman Stadium is a 10:30 a.m.start, and a seven inning game. It’s a shorter game to allow for the fireworks setup and other city stadium activities.
