The Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers were busy wheeling and dealing on Wednesday – with each other.

First, the Bruins dealt backup goalie Joonas Korpisalo and his $3 million price tag to New York for forward Kalle Vaisanen and a 2028 fourth round pick. Then, later in the day, they dealt a 2027 second round pick and a conditional 2028 third rounder to the Rangers for veteran defenseman Will Borgen.

The third round pick becomes a 2028 second rounder if the Bruins make the conference finals in either this year or 2027-28 and Borgen plays in 50 percent of the team’s playoff games.

Borgen, 29, is signed for four more years at $4.1 million per. He’s a physical 6-foot-3 physical player, but had basically underachieved in New York after being acquired in the December 2024 trade for Kaap Kakko. He had 18 points in two Ranger seasons.

Vaisanen played in 51 games with the Rangers AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolfpack. The Bruins lost free agent forward Victor Arvidsson and his 25 goals and 29 assists to Detroit.

Korpisalo, 32, appeared in 31 games for the Bruins and went 14-9-6 with a 3.15 GAA and .894 save percentage.

But with the trade the Bruins get some much needed salary cap relief.
