NASHUA – Don’t look now but the Nashua James E. Coffey Post Senior Legion baseball team is at it again.

All Coffey Post has done over the years is be one of the top teams in the state. Last year the Coffey Kids were one win away from the state finals. This year in District B, Nashua is off to 3-0 start after sweeping Portsmouth on Friday by the combined score of 27-6.

Mercy.

Nashua’s two wins were 15-4 in 4.5 innings and 12-2 in six frames, both ended by mercy rule.

“The first few games have been a good opportunity for us go gel and we’re hoping to do continue to do that over the next few weeks,” Nashua manager Norm Kerman said. “The offense has carried us through this early stretch of games and guys are starting to find their role, both in the lineup and on the mound.”

A lot of the standouts are familiar. In the first game, Ben Geiger went four innings, allowing five hits, three runs while striking out seven. Nick Wyner had a single, homer and three RBIs to pace the offense, while others, including Gavin Santos, Ethan Drouin, and Keenan Myers chipped in with two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, Brendon Doughty went three innings, allowing three hits, two runs, but struck out six. Chance Unthank tossed three innings of scoreless, hitless relief. Offensively Liam Ireland drove in five runs, while Jacoby Caissie drove in three. Geiger had multiple hits while Santos had two RBIs.

Coffey next hosts Exeter at Historic Holman Stadium on Wednesday for a doubleheader, with the first game starting at 5:30 p.m.

“If we continue to throw strikes, limit free bases, and play solid defense, we’ll be competitive and give ourselves chances to win games,” Kerman said.
