WESTFIELD, Mass. — They had a case of the Monday Morning Blahs.

The Nashua Silver Knights traveled to Billy Bullens Field in Westfield yesterday morning and were blanked 4-0 by the Starfires, with Josh Mayo throwing the first complete game shutout in Westfield Starfires history.

The Silver Knights fall to 5-7 as the Starfires improve to 5-6. Nashua returns home tonight to host the Lowell Spinners at Historic Holman Stadium at 6:03 p.m.

Westfield got on the board in the first inning on a Will Briggs RBI single to score Jamison Howland, then added two more in the third on a Trent Jenks RBI single, making it 3-0. The Starfires added an insurance run in the eighth on a JJ Fox sacrifice fly to put the game out of reach.

Mayo held the Knights to just three hits over nine innings, walking two and striking out 6 in a dominant outing that marked a milestone for the Westfield franchise and delighted the Education Day crowd of 837.

Ben Peterson, Peter Fischer and Max Dantoni were the only Knights who got hits of Mayo.

Malcolm Klingler (Northeastern) started for Nashua, allowing three runs over three innings. Declan Wilkes (Lehigh) was the bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing 3 scoreless innings in relief. Michael Cobb (Johnson & Wales) allowed one run in 1.1 innings before Colten Shaffer (Millersville) closed things out.

Cam Piwnicki (0-0, 1.74) is slated to get the start tonight for the Silver Knights vs. the Spinners. Lowell’s probable is lefty Caden Smith (0-0, 2.89)
