They’ve been sleepless since Seattle. Well, it’s quite possible the New Engand Patriots may get a chance to settle the score.

Multiple reports say it will be New England at the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL’s season opener on the night of Wednesday, Sept. 9, as the league continues to leak out schedule news before everything is announced tonight.

The Patriots, of course, fell flat in Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara a little over three months ago, 29-13. It was never really a close contest as the Seahawks physically manhandled New England, especially with their defense.

If the report is true, then it will be the first Super Bowl rematch to open a season since the defending champion Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 21-20 in Denver as Carolina kicker Graham Gano missed a potential game-winning field goal attempt of 50 yards with 10 seconds left.

The choices for the Seahawks opponent – every defending Super Bowl champion gets to be the exclusive opener for the following season – boiled down to either New England, Chicago, Arizona or the Los Angeles Chargers. Many felt the Bear would be the choice because the league would want to stay away from starting the year off with the Patriots in the limelight thanks to the recent Mike Vrabel/Dianna Russini scandal.

ANOTHER PATRIOTS LEGAL ISSUE

New England’s seventh round pick in this year’s draft, linebacker Quintayvious Hutchins out of Boston College, was charged with domestic assault and battery on Wednesday after an alleged altercation with a woman.

Hutchins, who signed a four-year, $4.5 million rookie contract with the Patriots, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and was released on his own recognizance.

According to reports, Hutchins was accused by witnesses of grabbing a woman by the neck and pushing her in an alleged altercation at Boston College residence hall on Tuesday. The woman reportedly told police that nothing happened.

“We are aware of the report involving Quintayvious Hutchins,” the Patriots said in a statement. “We take these matters very seriously and are in the process of gathering additional information.”

The 23-year-old Hutchins had nine tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks with the Eagles combined the last two seasons.
