Rivier Roundup: Men’s lax clinches No. 1 seed; softball sweeps

STANDISH, Me. – The Rivier men’s lacrosse team defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Saint Joseph’s (Me.) 11-5 Wednesday at the SJC Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Raiders improved to 14-0 (10-0 GNAC), while the Monks fell to 8-7 (7-3 GNAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
SJC got on the board first, finding the back of the net just past the 10:00 mark. Rivier responded with four unanswered goals down the stretch. Sophomore Liam Conley scored two quick goals to put the Raiders ahead, 2-1. First-year Henri Brochu made it a two-goal lead with just under five minutes to play in the opening quarter. Sophomore Mason Schultz capped the scoring in the frame, finding twine with 1:15 remaining.
Brochu pushed the advantage to four early in the second on a feed from Conley before sophomore Aiden Conley increased the lead to 6-1. Schultz registered his second of the evening off a feed from first-year Conor Walsh to round out first-half scoring and give the Raiders a 7-1 lead heading into the break.
Coming out of halftime, sophomore goalkeeper Jake Lydon recorded his second goal of the season just over two minutes into the third quarter. The Monks added their second goal of the night with just under three minutes to play, but Brochu answered to restore the seven-goal cushion with 45 seconds left in the stanza.
First-year Andrew Nee opened the fourth-quarter scoring for the Raiders, netting an unassisted tally to take a 10-2 edge. SJC responded with back-to-back goals midway through the period. Nee later found Walsh for Rivier’s 11th and final goal before the Monks added one more with 4:30 remaining.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
Brochu and Nee paced the offense with three points each…Senior Owen McDuffie recorded a team-high six ground balls and won 11 of 17 faceoffs…First-year Colin Foley caused three turnovers.
UP NEXT
The Raiders head to Emmanuel (Mass.) on Saturday for their final regular season game of the 2026 campaign. The opening faceoff is slated for noon at Roberto Clemente Field.
SOFTBALL
RAIDERS SWEEP COLBY-SAWYER
The Rivier softball team swept Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday afternoon at Raider Diamond, earning a 4-2 victory in the opener before cruising to a 13-2 win in game two.
With the sweep, the Raiders improved to 12-14 (9-3 GNAC) on the season, while the Chargers fell to 1-14 (1-10 GNAC)
Rivier 4, Colby-Sawyer 2
Colby-Sawyer took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning behind a pair of runs.Rivier answered in the fourth, stringing together five hits to plate three runs and take a 3-2 advantage. Senior Kyleigh Guerette drove in the first run before first-year Emma Politz followed with a sacrifice fly to even the score.
Senior Kylee Caetano delivered the go-ahead RBI single later in the inning to give the Raiders the lead. The Raiders added an insurance run in the fifth as junior Liv Harnish knocked in classmate, Sophia Quinlan, who doubled earlier in the inning.
Rivier’s pitching staff held Colby-Sawyer scoreless over the final five innings to secure the win. Rivier totaled 11 hits, led by Quinlan’s three-hit performance.Politz and Caetano each added two hits and an RBI, while Harnish finished with two hits and an RBI.
Senior Hayley Rapaglia earned the win in the circle, while junior Hayleigh Silva recorded the save with three scoreless innings in relief.
Rivier 13, Colby-Sawyer 2 (5 inn.)
The Raiders jumped out to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-RBI double from Quinlan. Rivier exploded for six runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 10-0
Politz and Silva each drove in runs before senior Olivia Couto delivered a two-RBI triple.Rapaglia added an RBI single, and the Raiders capitalized on a wild pitch to cap the inning scoring senior Avry Nelson.
Rivier added two runs in the third and one more in the fifth to push the lead to 13-0. Colby-Sawyer broke through with a two-run home run in the fifth, but the Raiders closed out the run-rule victory.
Rivier recorded 13 hits and 12 RBI in the win…Caetano led the offense with three hits and four runs scored…Nelson added three hits and three RBI eclipsing the 100th career hit milestone…Junior Hailey Berube earned the win in the circle, allowing just two runs on three hits over five innings.
The Raiders continue their home stand today with a pair on non-conference games against Wentworth Institute of Technology. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m.
BASEBALL
RAIDERS SWEPT BY NORWICH
The Rivier baseball team lost to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Norwich on Wednesday afternoon at Garrity Field.
With the result, the Raiders moved to 10-15 (5-7 GNAC), while the Cadets moved to 9-18 (6-8 GNAC).
Norwich 2, Rivier 0 (7 inn.)
The Cadets accounted for the game’s only runs, scoring in the first and third innings.
Junior John Horgan tossed a complete six innings, only allowing three hits, fanning nine batters…Senior Owen Medlock and Junior Sebastain Reis had the two lone hits for the Raiders.
Norwich 3, Rivier 1 (9 inn.)
Norwich scored a run in the first and second innings, but Rivier cut the deficit in half in the third inning as junior Nathan Innerfiled’s RBI single up the middle brought junior Colton Colleran home.
The Cadets however restored the two-run lead in the seventh inning to claim the 3-1 victory.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
Junior Sean Kuhlhoff and senior Travis McKeen combined for five strikeouts.
Innerfield went 1-of-2, with a hit and RBI, while drawing two walks…Senior Dylan Aliberti went 2-of-4.

The Raiders return home for a double header versus GNAC foe Mitchell on Saturday,, with the first pitch set for 12 p.m. and the second game scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Harvey Woods.
