Rivier baseball settles for split with Albertus Magnus

NASHUA – The Rivier baseball team took game one against Albertus Magnus 8-4, before dropping game two 6-2, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Monday Afternoon at Harvey Woods Field.

With the result, the Raiders improved to 8-10 (3-3 GNAC), while the Falcons dropped to 7-14 (4-7 GNAC).

8 Rivier, 4 Albertus Magnus (7 inn.)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons plated one in the first, the Raiders answered as junior Liam Stott single through the right side sent junior Colton Colleran home.

In the second Albertus went up one keep the Raiders off the board.

Rivier erupted for six runs in the third inning to build an 8-2 advantage. Senior Nathan Innerfield and junior Sebastian Reis opened the frame with back-to-back walks. Senior Dylan Aliberti followed with a bunt that brought Innerfield home on an error, and Reis scored shortly after when Stott reached on another miscue.Junior Matt Lebrecque then drew a balk to load the bases. Sophomore Alex Gallicano and senior Owen Medlock each reached on fielder’s choices, driving in Aliberti and Stott. Sophomore Jayce Martinez capped the rally with a triple to right center, scoring Medlock and Gallicano, before coming around to score on a sacrifice bunt by Colleran

Albertus plated two runs in the seventh in a final push, but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders held on for an 8-4 victory.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN

Stott led the offense, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored…Innerfield went 2-for-3 with a walk and one run scored…Martinez delivered a two-RBI triple and also scored once…Graduate student Nate Bonacorsi went the distance, tossing a complete seven-inning effort while fanning five batters and allowing just four runs. He earned the win and moves to 1-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus struck first with a run in the second inning.

Rivier answered in the fourth, as Stott drove in Innerfield with an RBI groundout

The Falcons broke it open with four runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.

Medlock responded in the bottom half, singling through the left side, then stealing second and third before scoring on a throwing error to cut it to 6-2.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN

Medlock went 2-of-3 with a run and two stolen bases.

Junior Jake O’Connor pitched for 5 innings with three strikeouts.

First-year EJ Baker closed out the game on the mound, throwing for 4 innings with six strikeouts.
