Rivier Roundup: Volleyball, men’s lax players earn GNAC honors

NASHUA — Rivier University junior middle blocker Tyler Dickinson has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Offensive Player of the Week after posting 22 kills, a .341 hitting percentage, 28.5 points, and 12 total blocks, helping lead the Raiders to a 2-0 week.

Dickinson opened the week with 13 kills in Rivier’s 3-2 victory over Nichols, adding 18 points and a career-high nine total blocks.

The Lincoln, R.I., native closed out the week with nine kills and three blocks in the Raiders’ 3-0 conference sweep of Emerson, highlighted by an impressive .727 hitting percentage.

Dickinson andon Tuesday, March 24, the rest of the Rivier men’s volleyball team return to action tonight for a conference match up with Emmanuel (Mass.). First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m., with senior night recognition taking place beforehand.

SCHULTZ, NEE EARN HONORS

Sophomore Mason Schultz and first-year Andrew Nee have been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Monday.

Schultz recorded 19 points on 15 goals and four assists, while also adding nine ground balls and five caused turnovers during a perfect 3-0 (2-0 GNAC) week for the Raiders. The Townsend, Mass. product opened the week with five goals and one assist in an 18-4 win over non-conference opponent Salem State. Schultz continued his strong play in the midweek matchup against Colby-Sawyer, posting seven points (6 goals, 1 assist) in a dominant 25-0 shutout of the Chargers. He capped the week with four goals and two assists in a 21-2 victory over Albertus Magnus.

Nee also turned in a standout week, totaling 13 points on 12 goals and one assist, while collecting 12 ground balls. The Wareham, Mass. product scored six goals, including a man-up tally, against Salem State. He followed that performance with two goals and four ground balls versus Colby-Sawyer before closing the week with four goals and an assist against Albertus Magnus.

Schultz, Nee, and the Rivier men’s lacrosse team return to action Wednesday, for a GNAC matchup with Regis (Mass.) The opening faceoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Joanne Merrill Field.
