Rivier Roundup: Softball, baseball fall; Raiders win awards

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Rivier softball team dropped a pair of games on Monday afternoon at the Space Coast Complex, falling 1-0 to Wisconsin-Superior in the opener before dropping a 10-0 decision to Monmouth (Ill.) in the second game of the day.
With the results, the Raiders moved to 0-2 on the season as their spring training trip in Florida continues.
WIS-SUPERIOR 1, RIVIER 0
The Raiders and Yellow Jackets battled through six scoreless innings as both teams relied on strong pitching and defense.Rivier threatened in the fourth inning when junior Hayleigh Silva and senior Kylee Caetano recorded back-to-back singles, but UW-Superior turned a double play to escape the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Wisconsin-Superior loaded the bases before the Yellow Jackets delivered a two-out single through the right side to score the game-winning run.

Junior Hailey Berube pitched 6.2 strong innings in the circle, allowing just one run on six hits.
MONMOUTH (Ill.) 10, RIVIER 0 (6 innings)
Both teams were scoreless through three innings before Monmouth broke through with three runs in the fourth inning to take the early lead.
Rivier threatened in the bottom half of the fourth when Caetano worked a walk and senior Avry Nelson singled to right field, but the Raiders were unable to bring a run across.
The Fighting Scots extended their lead in the sixth inning with a seven-run frame fueled by several extra-base hits to secure the run-rule victory.

Senior Olivia Couto led the Raiders with a double, while Nelson added Rivier’s only other hit…Senior Hayley Rapaglia made the start in the circle and struck out five batters over five innings.

BASEBALL
WPI 12, RIVIER 2
The Rivier baseball team was downed in non-conference action on Monday evening at Ebbets Field in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
With the result, the Raiders dropped to 0-3, while the Engineers improved to 3-0. WPI struck early, collecting six hits and scoring six runs in the first inning.
The Engineers extended their lead to eight runs after three innings of play.
In the top of the sixth, the Raiders loaded the bases with walks from senior Dylan Aliberti, sophomores David Miller, and Liam Stott. Fellow Sophomore Jayce Martinez followed with a single through the left side to score Aliberti.
Senior Owen Medlock then drew a walk to force in Miller for Rivier’s second run. WPI added four runs to end the contest in the bottom of the eighth and secure the 12-2 final.
Sophomore Colton Colleran went 2-for-4 at the plate while Martinez and Medlock each recorded an RBI. Junior Jake O’Connor made the start and was charged with the loss.
The Raiders are back in action for a non-conference contest against Delaware Valley on Tuesday at Crosley Field in Myrtle Beach. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.

BROCHU GNAC ROOKIE OF WEEK
Rivier men’s lacrosse’s first-year midfielder Henri Brochu has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Brochu recorded four points on two goals and two assists in his first collegiate start in Saturday afternoon’s 16-9 win over GNAC opponent Dean. The Concord native’s first collegiate point and goal came at the same time, finding twin at the 13:40 mark in the second quarter with a helper from sophomore James DelPrete.
Brochu and the Rivier men’s lacrosse team travel to Castleton, Vt. today for a non-conference bout with VTSU-Castleton. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Dave Wolk Stadium.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
BASSETT MASCAC ROOKIE OF WEEK
Rivier women’s ice hockey first-year forward, Marina Bassett, has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Bassett rounded out the 2025-26 campaign with a two-point performance (0-2-2) and a +1 plus/minus rating in the MASCAC Championship game against Worcester St. The South Portland, Maine native rounded out her first collegiate season with 13 points, which is tied seventh best in the conference, on five goals and eight assists.
Bassett and the Rivier women’s ice hockey team looks to return to the MASCAC Championship for a third straight season in the 2026-27 campaign.
