NASHUA — Former Celtics great Robert Parish will be at Balin Books at Somerset Plaza for a special meet-and-greet and signing of his new memoir, “The Chief” on Thursday, March 19 from 7-9 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest centers in basketball history and part of the “Big Three” with Larry Bird and Kevin McHale, Parish is a four-time NBA Champion and nine-time All-Star whose remarkable longevity and quiet dominance helped define an era.

A cornerstone of the historic Boston Celtics teams of the 1980s, he played alongside legends and built a reputation for consistency, resilience, and leadership on and off the court.

In “The Chief”, Parish offers an unfiltered look at his journey – from his early years in Louisiana to his Hall of Fame career – sharing stories of triumph, adversity, and the mindset that carried him through more games than any player in NBA history at the time of his retirement.

In his book, the famously reserved Parish opens up for the first time about the full scope of his life–from attending a predominantly white high school during the uneasy years of integration to becoming the anchor of one of the greatest teams in NBA history. With honesty, humility, and plenty of dry humor, Parish reflects on his start with the Golden State Warriors and his trade to Boston, the years alongside Bird and McHale, the Celtics’ epic rivalries of the 1980s, and the later years with the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls, finally walking away from the game on his own terms.

Parish played in the National Basketball Association from 1976 to 1997, including 14 years with the Boston Celtics. A four-time NBA champion, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003 and named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team in 2021.
