UNH Hoop Roundup: Women topple Binghamton, men bow
DURHAM – Junior guard Eva DeChent scored a game-high 23 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team to a 67-48 victory against Binghamton University at Lundholm Gym on Thursday night.
DeChent, who made 8 of 13 field goal attempts and was 6-for-7 at the foul line, also led all players in both assists (six) and steals (four).
Senior forward Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) finished with 13 points – on 5 of 7 shooting – and team-leading seven rebounds. Junior guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) had nine points, three rebounds and three assists, while sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie of Hampstead recorded nine points on three 3-pointers, as well as four rebounds and two assists.
Binghamton was led by Bella Pucci (12 points) and Kendall Bennett (10 points, eight rebounds).
UNH led 31-29 at the half and took control to lead 52-40 after three quarters. UNH improves to 9-19 overall and 3-12 in America East. The Bearcats, who entered the game tied for second place in the America East standings, are now 18-10, 10-5.

UNH concludes the regular season Feb. 28 (1pm) with a Senior Day game vs. UAlbany. A total of eight Wildcats will be honored in the pre-game ceremony.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
BINGHAMTON 65, UNH 63
Junior forward Davide Poser scored a career-high 24 points but the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team was edged by Binghamton at Dr. Bai Lee Court in Vestal, N.Y.
Poser scored all 24 of his points on eight 3-pointers. He also had two rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes. UNH moves to 8-19 overall and 4-10 in America East while the Bearcats are now 7-23, 3-12
Freshman guard Tyler Bike of Merrimack was the other Wildcat who scored in double digits with 10 points, including three 3-pointers. Redshirt sophomore forward Belal El Shakery recorded a game-high 11 rebounds and six points.
Binghamton was led by Jeremiah Quigley (17 points), Zyier Beverly (14), Jake Blackburn (11), and Jackson Benigni (10).
Poser’s eighth 3-pointer capped a 7-0 run that lifted UNH within 64-63 with 51 seconds on the clock.Beverly was sent to the foul line for a pair of shots with 21 seconds left. He made the first and missed the second with Poser pulling down the defensive rebound.
The Wildcats called their full timeout with 13 seconds remaining and missed a 3-point attempt with two seconds left to end the game with Binghamton on top.
UNH returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. at UAlbany.
