Rivier women’s hockey gets blanked by JWU, 3-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rivier women’s ice hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Johnson & Wales (Providence) in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening at Lynch Arena.
With the result, the Raiders moved to 10-6-0, while the Wildcats moved to 8-8-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Still tied 0-0 after the opening frame, Rivier held a slight shots-on-goal advantage, 13-12.
The Wildcats struck first, finding the back of the net 3:19 into the second frame. Eight minutes later, JWU added another to extend its lead to two.
The Raiders earned the first and only power-play chance late in the frame but were unable to capitalize before the break.
JWU scored once more at the 17:48 mark of the final period for a 3-0 final.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
First-year goaltender Emily Krauss turned aside 45 shots…Senior Jessica Driscoll put a team-high six shots on target…The Wildcats outshot the Raiders 48-25…As a team, Rivier blocked 24 shots, led by sophomore Alexa Vencill with four of her own.
