UNH men’s, women’s basketball teams both fall to NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – Junior guards Comeh Emuobor and KiJan Robinson scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, but the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team was upended 80-76 by NJIT at the Joel & Diane Bloom Wellness & Events Center.

Emuobor also pulled down six rebounds while Robinson tied for the team lead with four assists. Sophomore forward John Squire finished with seven points, nine rebounds and career-high four assists. Junior forward Davide Poser recorded 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.

NJIT was led by David Bolden (21 points) and Ari Fulton (18).

UNH moves to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in America East while NJIT, which outscored the Wildcats 11-1 in the final three minutes, is 7-10, 2-0.

UNH returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. at UMBC.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

NJIT 69, UNH 62

Junior guard Eva DeChent matched her career high of 34 points but the Wildcats fell short at Lundholm Gym.

DeChent also pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds to record her first career double-double. She was also credited with five steals, one block and an assist.

Junior guard Maggie Cavanaugh finished with 11 points, and sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie of Hampstead had eight rebounds and five points.

NJIT was led by Alejandra Zuniga (19 points), Olivia Kulyk (14) and Allison Cannon (13), while Ava Locklear had a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds.

UNH lost at home for the first time this season to move to 6-10 overall, 0-3 in the conference and 5-1 at home. NJIT, which outscored the Wildcats 22-12 in the fourth quarter, is 11-5, 2-1.

UNH continues its three-game homestand Saturday at 1 p.m. against UMBC.
