UNH men’s hoop gives Billikens a battle but falls short

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Junior guards Jack Graham (Smithfield, R.I.) and KiJan Robinson scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, but the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team was edged 93-79 by Saint Louis University at Chaifetz Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Comeh Emuobormanother junior guard, finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists. Junior forward Belal El Shakery recorded eight points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Robbie Avila and Brady Dunlap led four SLU players in double figures with 18 points apiece. Dion Brown had 15 points and game-high nine rebounds while Trey Green netted 12 points.

UNH moves to 4-8 overall and the Billikens, who went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final 76 seconds to fend off the Wildcats, are 11-1.

Saint Louis led 40-38 at the half. In the second half, UNH took a 51-49 lead on Davide Poser’s layup at 14:48, but SLU went on a 10-0 run to take a 59-51 lead at 12:23.

The Wildcats inched within three points, 62-59, on a layup by R.J. Kennedy at 9:35. But the Billikens built the biggest lead of the game – 12 points – of 73-61 with 7:35 on the clock. The closest the Wildcats would get was five the rest of the way.

UNH returns to action Dec. 30 (9 p.m. Eastern) at Nebraska.

New Hampshire’s next home game is the Jan. 3 America East conference opener against the University of Vermont.
