MANCHESTER – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (2-6, 31-46) snapped a five-game skid against the Portland Sea Dogs (3-5, 37-38 at Delta Dental Stadium on Wednesday night, 4-1, as Grant Rogers fired his third consecutive quality start by allowing one earned run and punching out four in seven innings of work.

Rogers (W, 2-4) went a season-high seven innings for his sixth quality start of the season and fifth with New Hampshire. Right-hander Alex Amalfi (S, 4) did not allow a base runner and fanned four Sea Dogs in two innings of relief to lock up the Cats’ 4-1 win.

The Fisher Cats struck first in the top for the first inning after first baseman Jackson Hornung belted a double to extend his hit streak to eight games. Third baseman Charles McAdoo followed by depositing a homer over the left-center field wall to give the Cats an early 2-0 lead.

McAdoo led the way offensively by going 2-for-4 with two runs driven in, including his sixth homer of the season. Hornung went 2-for-3 to continue his scorching start with the Fisher Cats. Through eight games in Double-A, Hornung is batting .452 with 14 hits and five runs driven in. Dating back to his time with High-A Vancouver, Hornung is on an 11-game hitting streak and is hitting .405 in that span.

The Fisher Cats added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to three consecutive hits from the bottom of the order. Center fielder Je’Von Ward drilled a single to right field before scoring on a catcher Jacob Sharp single to make it 3-0. Hornung followed by cracking a single to cash in right fielder Gabriel Martinez that extended the Cats’ lead to 4-0.

Making his first career Double-A start, Ward went 2-for-4 with a double off the right-center field wall in the bottom of the eighth inning. Martinez joined Ward by knocking a pair of singles for his second multi-hit game in as many nights.

For the second night in a row, four Fisher Cats posted multi-hit performances as New Hampshire piled on 12 knocks. It was the first time this season that the Cats piled on double-digit hits in back-to-back games, after recording 11 hits in Tuesday night’s loss.

Portland’s lone run scored in the top of the fourth inning when right fielder Zach Ehrhard sent a double off the center field wall to score center fielder Allan Castro from first to make it 4-1.

The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs complete their three-game series with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Thursday. New Hampshire’s Ryan Watson (4-5, 4.10 ERA) will make his 14th start of the season and will square off with Portland lefty Dalton Rogers (2-1, 4.97 ERA) in the series finale.
