BOSTON — The Boston Bruins had one of the busiest days of any NHL team on the first day of free agency on Tuesday, and even pulled off a trade.
As a result, the team added a whopping 10 new players.
But don’t be too excited, they weren’t high leverage signings.
The two main moves: The Bruins traded for Edmonton’s Viktor Arvidsson and signed free agent forward Tanner Jeannot to a 5-year deal at $3.4 million per.
Jeannot, 28, appeared in 67 games with the Los Angeles Kings during the 2024-25 season, recording seven goals and six assists for 13 points. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound forward has skated in 294 career NHL games with Los Angeles, Tampa Bay and Nashville, totaling 49 goals and 44 assists for 93 points. The Estevan, Saskatchewan native was originally signed by Nashville as a free agent in 2018.
“Obviously a busy day, busy time period,” Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said. “Explored every oppourtunity, whether by trade or free agency, and we did a little bit of both.”
The other big move as getting Arvidsson from Edmonton in return for a fifth round pick.
“I’m gonna come there, I’m gonna play a responsible game, and I think Marco (new Bruins coach Sturm) knows exactly what he’s getting from me,” said Arvidsson on BostonBruins.com. “I’m gonna help offensively and bring scoring. I know I can do that. I know I had a little bit of a tough time last year with that and the opportunity. I’m gonna bring that, I know that. I’m really confident that I’m gonna make the team better.
“Just really happy and excited, first of all – both me and my whole family are excited to be a part of the Bruins. Just coming to a great sports city, it’s gonna be really fun.”
The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder tallied 15 goals and 27 points in 67 games for the Oilers in the regular season, before notching two goals and seven points in 15 games during Edmonton’s run to the Stanley Cup Final.
In other signings, they inked former Bruins forward Sean Kuraly to a two-year contract with an annual cap hit of $1.85 million. Kuraly, 32, appeared in 82 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2024-25 season, recording six goals and 11 assists for 17 points. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound forward has skated in 562 career NHL games with Columbus and Boston, totaling 64 goals and 89 assists for 153 points. They also inked signed forward Michael Eyssimont to a two-year contract with an annual cap hit of $1.45 million.
Eyssimont, 28, appeared in 77 games with Seattle and Tampa Bay during the 2024-25 season, recording nine goals and seven assists for 16 points.
They also added AHLers Matěj Blümel (forward), forward Alex Steeves, forward Riley Tufte, goaltender Luke Cavallin, and defenseman Jonathan Aspirot.
They also added former Blue Jacket defensman Jordan Harris.
