NASHUA – Location, location, location.

The Nashua Silver Knights have won three straight, including Wednesday night’s 6-3 triumph over the Norwich Sea Unicorns, and it’s no coincidence that all three have been at Holman Stadium.

“We don’t ever want to lose here,” Nashua’s River Hart said. “Ever. It’s like, we do a really good job here. … We really try to emphasize not losing at home. That’s what we want to do.”

“The guys get fired up to play here,” Nashua manager Nick Guarino said, his team now 9-8 with the win before a crowd of 892 and set to host a previously red-hot Worcester tonight at Holman. “You can see it. The energy’s just so much different. We’ve got a lot of barking going on in the dugout and bullpen, literally and figuratively. They get into it, they get locked in, they enjoy the crowd, they enjoy the atmosphere.”

The Knights also enjoy with the other team makes mistakes. Last night they took advantage of a whopping five errors by Norwich, but they had blown a 3-1 lead in the fourth thanks to a two-run, game-tying double by Sea Unicorn Clay Hartje off reliever Hunter Ward.

But after a few missed chances, the Knights grabbed the lead for good thanks to two Norwich errors in the seventh, as Jake Haarde’s hot shot to second went off the glove of Sea Unicorn Aidan Stern who tried to backhand it, allowing Ryan Strand to score.

“We know the identity of the team is put the ball in play and manufacture runs,” Guarino said. “We probably should have put up more than six in that game. I just told them that. Couple base running blunders. Couple times we had guys on base with less than two outs and not doing jobs. We had guys on every inning pretty much. … Put the ball in play, good things happen.”

A key part of the game was in the sixth when Norwich had two on thanks to a dropped ball by shortstop Will Shaheen on an attempted force play at second, but lefty reliever Nate Kelleher-Mochak, who was supposed to start but was instead coming out of the pen thanks to Tuesday’s rainout, got out of it. Third baseman Joe Zorc threw out Unicorn Spencer Chard at the plate on a fielder’s choice and Kelleher-Mochak got Aidan Stern to pop out to Shaheen to end the threat. The lefty tossed four scoreless frames, allowing just two hits with a walk and two strikeouts to get the win.

“He competes all year in the spring,” Guarino said of Kelleher-Mochak, who will be a senior at Springfield. “He was all cool with coming in out of the pen. He came in, treated it like a start. Last week against them he struggled a little bit, tonight he comes in, fills the zone up, things happen. Throw strikes.”

That kept the game tied. After taking their 4-3 lead, Nashua added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth when Jack Balcer walked with the bases loaded and Ryan Strand hit a sac fly.

Early in the game, they scored two unearned runs in the first and made it a 3-1 game on a Shaheen RBI single in the second.

Home sweet Holman.
