NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Rivier baseball team was shutout, 2-0, by Mitchell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) duel on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Raiders dropped to 6-13 (1-5 GNAC) as the Mariners improved to 14-13 (6-1 GNAC).

It wasn’t until the fourth inning that the hosts would put their first run across the board, scoring on a sacrifice fly. In the eighth, they doubled their lead in the same fashion before holding on defensively to secure the shutout.

Senior righthander Anthony Morro went 7.1 innings allowing two runs. Seven Mitchell batters reached base on Morro’s watch as he allowed four hits and three walks while earning one strikeout.

Next up, the Raiders will step out of GNAC play to play Worcester St. in their home opener on Tuesday, April 8 with a 3:30 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
